Car accidents: Police cruiser collides with pickup

Dealing with the aftermath of a car collision can be complicated. Victims of car accidents may have to deal with insurance companies, handle property damage and pay for expensive medical bills. Family members of deceased victims will additionally have to plan and finance an unexpected funeral. Recently, a pickup truck collided with a Kentucky State Police cruiser, and it resulted in a fatality.

The officer had been called to an accident involving an injury and was traveling on a busy state highway when the collision occurred. Witnesses reported that he was traveling northbound with his siren and lights on. As he traveled north, he passed several other vehicles on their left side. The pickup truck was also traveling north and was attempting to make a left turn onto another road when the cruiser struck the driver's side of the vehicle. The impact resulted in both vehicles coming to a stop in a nearby yard.

Sadly, the pickup driver died on the scene, but her passenger was quickly taken to a medical center for treatment of his injuries. The officer as well was treated and is reportedly in stable condition. As per policy, the officer was administered a blood test and has been placed on administrative leave until the accident investigation by another state agency is complete. Nearby residents reported that accidents frequently occur at the intersection, and proposals have been made to make the intersection safer. One resident stated that they have not seen any action by local officials to make the proposals a reality.

Other car accidents may be similarly complicated for victims to navigate the aftermath that follows. Victims and family members of deceased victims involved in complex collisions may benefit from the counsel of a personal injury attorney in Kentucky. Attorneys can ensure that victims understand their rights, options and how to handle a claim with their insurance company or in court.
