LOUISVILLE, KY – The Louisville Police Department is investigating an accident that killed a moped rider in the Newburg neighborhood Sunday night, WDRB reports.
Police said the rider was headed north on Preston Highway near Bennet Lane when a southbound vehicle turned in front of the moped at about 7:30 p.m. The moped crashed into the vehicle’s passenger side. The moped rider was thrown from the bike, and then was hit by a second northbound vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said both drivers fled the area following the accident. The identity of the victim has not yet been disclosed.
Preston Highway was shut down for about two hours for the crash investigation. Anyone with information regarding the incident was asked to contact the Louisville Police Traffic Unit.
