TRIGG COUNTY, KY – An elderly driver died after her car was involved in a collision in Trigg County Monday morning, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Kentucky State Police, troopers responded to the accident scene at the intersection of US 68 and Merchant Street after the incident was reported just after 11:30 a.m.
The initial investigation determined that 81-year-old Freda Oakley of Cadiz was driving a Chevrolet Impala south on Merchant Street when she attempted to cross US 68 (Hopkinsville Road). Her vehicle entered the path of a Ram 1500 and struck the rear driver’s side of the vehicle.
Oakley was taken to Trigg County Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ram, 39-year-old Jamie Gapp of Cadiz, was taken to the same hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. A 20-month-old child who was properly secured in Gapp’s vehicle was also transported to the hospital to be checked out.
Both Gapp and Oakley were wearing their seat belts at the time of the collision, troopers said.
State police are continuing to investigate the incident.
