KNOTT COUNTY, KY – Kentucky State Police said two people were killed in a pickup truck accident in the Pine Top community of Knott County on Monday evening.
According to a news release, troopers from Post 13 responded to the scene on Kentucky 582 at about 6:11 p.m.
An investigation determined that 55-year-old Donald Mullins of Pine Top was driving a 1989 GMC pickup eastbound when the vehicle went off the road, hit several trees and overturned. A passenger in the pickup, 55-year-old Portia Calhoun of Kite, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mullins was extricated from the vehicle and was airlifted to UK Medical Center., where he was pronounced dead the following day. Mullins and Calhoun were not wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, troopers said. State police are continuing to investigate the accident.
