MAYFIELD, KY – A utility lineman was injured on the job while helping to repair damage in Mayfield following the recent tornado.
According to the Lexington Herald-Leader, the worker was part of a crew from the Knoxville, Tennessee area that was working to restore power in the area. The Graves County Sheriff’s Office said the man fell off a utility pole Saturday at about 9 a.m. and the pole fell on top of him.
First responders arrived at the scene to help the worker, who underwent surgery at a hospital in Nashville.
Utility crews in regions affected by the Dec. 10 tornado have dispatched crews to help restore power to tens of thousands of customers.
The Graves County Sheriff’s Office released a Facebook post that read in part, “These folks have a very dangerous job but many times we forget that. Again, we will never be able to thank them enough for what they are doing for us in Western Kentucky.”
